The church is the vehicle by which God is accomplishing His purposes in the world. The church exists to display the glory of God because all things exist for His glory. Followers of Jesus have been invited graciously into God’s redemptive purposes for the world through the church. In light of this reality, the opportunity to join a local church is much more than a commitment to consistent attendance or active involvement in community. It is also a sacred call to be involved in the redemptive work of our sovereign God and to be a microcosm of the universal household of God.
Therefore, at Tapestry we take covenant membership seriously because it matters. Being part of a church is no different than being part of a body where each individual piece depends on the others for health and well being.
When people desire to join Tapestry they are encouraged to attend one of our THREADS membership info meetings that we offer periodically. During THREADS we lay out the Mission/Vision/Core Values of Tapestry as well as answer questions about the church. We also walk through the church membership covenant and field any questions on it as well.
For those who are interested in moving forward after this point, we ask them to read the book, "Church Membership" by Jonathan Leeman. The next step after reading the book is to sit down with one of the elders so that you can share about your relationship with Christ, your understanding of the Gospel and then walk through and sign the membership covenant.
The last step after the covenant has been signed is to present the name of the membership candidate at the next Covenant Member's meeting for the purpose of affirmation.
If you are interested in reading through the Membership Covenant you can find it HERE.
